Repainting
Michelangelo
I taught myself to paint by studying photos of Michelangelo's frescos on the
ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. I did not want to learn to paint by
creating still-life's of fruit bowls so I decided to teach myself by
trying to duplicate some of
Michelangelo's art. I began by sketching an outline of the figure
on a canvas board and then slowly painting in the figures until they
matched the photo I was painting from.
As you will see on my
'Early Works' page, I painted the
head of the 'Sibyl of Delphi' several times while learning to paint.
I also painting the hands of 'God and Man' in watercolor and acrylic while
learning. I have repainted the head of the 'Sibyl of Delphi' which
is shown on this page and finally something I am happy with.
I plan to periodically
paint the remaining scenes form the ceiling of the Sistine. I
think these are some of the most beautiful artwork ever created and definitely
some of the most rewarding to paint. |
